How UV Protection Works with Window Tinting

Ultraviolet rays don’t just damage skin, causing sunburn and other problems. They can damage furniture and décor with fading, accelerate the wear-and-tear on the exterior elements of your home, and more. UV rays, solar heat, and glare can enter your  home daily through your windows, but the damaging effects of these solar components can be stopped or significantly reduced by window tinting.

Brower Tinting & Graphics window films and 3M tints reflect and absorb the sun’s energy to reduce the penetration of UV rays, diminish heat from the sun, and cut back on glare on your windows.

Our window films protect against UV rays by absorbing and/or reflecting them. We can install a variety of different types of films to offer UV protection, from non-reflective dyed films (help to reduce glare and fading, but not solar heat), to reflective films that are metallized to increase your window glass’ reflectivity in a range of strengths.

In addition to protecting against the harmful UV rays, window tinting can strongly affect your energy consumption and costs each month. Window films will dramatically reduce the amount of solar heat entering your home (and gas/electric heat from escaping), thus lowering your energy costs each month!

The window films also significantly improve visibility inside the home by reducing glare. The tinting can really improve your experience admiring the view from your windows or watching TV from your sofa on a bright day. If your home is located on the waterfront, these reflective window films keep the glare from sun off the water from obstructing your view.

Window tinting is important for UV protection on your home, since all of your windows will transmit UV if they are not tinted. This transference of UV rays happens regardless of whether or not they face direct sun, so it’s a good idea to have window films installed on all of your windows – even north-facing ones.

One of the benefits of window tinting is that it essentially lasts for a lifetime! Brower Tinting & Graphics actually warrants your window film to retain its effectiveness for as long as you own your home.
